Torea Frey is a collage and mixed media artist based in Clackamas, Oregon. Her current work reckons with language and its discontents, using destroyed dictionaries and didactic texts to tell visual stories about loss and renewal, inspired by a neurological episode that ended her first career as editor and writer. She has been working with found papers, glue, and paint since the early 2000s, exploring the transformative potential of mundane materials. Her art has been shown in the US and abroad, at venues such as Slip Gallery (Seattle, Wash.), the Reece Museum (Johnson City, Tenn.), and the House of Music (Pardubice, Czech Republic). It has also been featured in publications including Cut Me Up magazine, Wilder Collage, About Place Journal, and Borderline Press. Frey was part of the 2026 Emerging Artist Residency at Centrum in Port Townsend, WA, and has spent time in residence at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts and at LOGE Camps. She is a member of the National Collage Society as well as the Northwest Collage Society, for which she has served on the board of directors.
