Summer Cuts group show at Vein of Gold
With fall around the corner, there’s limited time left to see “Summer Cuts” — a group collage show at Vein of Gold in Portland, OR. In this show, four Portland collage artists celebrate the sunny season with new works of cut and torn creations. Made with equal parts improvisation and precision, these colorful and sometimes moody collages flicker with energy, elegance, and warmth.
My series of six mixed media collage works were created after an urban exploration trip to the erstwhile Vernonia sawmill, now an abandoned site that has been coopted as an open-air art gallery. In Vernonia, I gleaned waste material and fallen paint skins that I remixed into a series of works glorifying these found pieces and commenting on cycles of use and reuse in the lived environment.
